Mike Pritchard was appointed in 2015 as Vice President, Finance/Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer of the University of Colorado Foundation. In this role, he is responsible for all financial and fiscal management aspects of the Foundation’s operations. As of December 31, 2017, the Foundation manages $2 billion in assets for the benefit of the University with more than 3,000 current fund accounts and more than 2,600 endowments. Our endowments collectively are valued at $1.3 billion, and the Long Term Investment Pool is valued at $1.6 billion, increasing in value by 15% this past year. During FY 2017, $187 million of private support was donated to the Foundation through 60,000 gift transactions and the Foundation transferred an aggregate of $160.2 million to the University.
Mike came to the CU Foundation from Goodwill Industries of Denver, where he was the chief financial officer since 2013. There he led a team of 25 employees responsible for budget management, cost/benefit analysis, forecasting, real estate acquisitions and securing new financing and funding for the nonprofit. He had been a part of the leadership team at Goodwill Industries since 2009, previously having served as the organization’s vice president of business development.
Mike has had a distinguished career in Colorado’s nonprofit sector, serving in various development positions with Mile High United Way, Family Tree, Rocky Mountain Multiple Sclerosis Center and Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver. He has also volunteered for a number of charitable organizations, building houses for Habitat for Humanity and recruiting and coordinating volunteers for World Vision. Mike currently serves on Advisory Boards for both CU Boulder’s Deming Center Venture Fund and CU Denver’s Jake Jabs Center for Entrepreneurship. Mike is a graduate of the University of Colorado Boulder, where he majored in accounting and received a degree in business administration. Mike, a certified public accountant, began his career as an auditor at Deloitte & Touche LLP. He also recently completed a Masters of Business Administration in Finance in 2017 at the University of Phoenix, thanks to a full tuition scholarship he received from Goodwill Industries International in 2014.
Mike was named the Denver Business Journal’s CFO of the Year in 2015. He is also a 2016 graduate of CU’s Excellence in Leadership Program, a 2014 graduate of Goodwill Industries International's Executive Development program and a 2012 graduate of the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Denver program.
Mike and his wife Marcia have a passion for adoption, speaking publicly and meeting with families considering adoption. Mike leads two online connection and support groups for families that have adopted from Ethiopia. In 2011 they adopted a beautiful 10-year-old (now) girl from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and in 2015 they adopted a beautiful 8-year-old (now) girl from Ethiopia. Mike and his family live in Castle Pines, Colorado.
